Today is this book’s birthday! How to Draw a Brave Chicken is a darling addition to Ethan T. Berlin’s, How to Draw a Happy Cat. My seven year old loved the silly elements of the story and the simple drawing instructions. Jimbo Matison’s illustrations make it easy for a beginning illustrator to draw their own characters. This book reminded me of the basic drawing instructions in Ed Emberley’s books of my childhood. I can see it being very popular with younger readers. Being brave is difficult, but quick thinking will always save the day.
